Putting personal conflict before the health of others is absolutely unprofessional and should be illegal.. Babies and Children should NOT be in that water under ANY circumstances. I personally would NOT go in that water myself, which lead to my quitting and moving on to a different facility in the area.

I hope for the sake of the facility, they put together a grant campaign for the aquatic center like they did for the active living center and replace everything from the ground up. It is past the point of replacing items here and there... PLEASE talk to the on-staff lifeguard about the cleanliness of the pool before swimming. They will know the chemical numbers and have (hopefully) reported any bodily fluids that were discharged in the water..

The only reason I gave a 1 is because 0 is not an option. Please note- this is regarding the AQUATIC CENTER at the Itasca County YMCA.

Take your money elsewhere and swim at the Grand Rapids Middle School (Robert J. Elkington M.S.) they have a clean, well maintained, 8 lane 12 foot pool with diving boards. It's super cheap and you can always rely on it being open, clean, and staffed with properly trained and certified life guards.

I have visited a lot of YMCAs the Grand Rapids YMCA is one of the best ones I've ever been to

Very reasonable for all that is included. People are fantastic. Instructors are great. Equipment is clean, well-maintained & plentiful. I love my YMCA!

I've been a member for several months. At this time, I only use the gym facilities. Yes, it's pricier than a "regular" workout facility. However, I'm not only paying for a gym membership, I'm contributing to many valuable community programs. In addition, there are a variety of group fitness classes available that are included in the membership, at no additional cost.

Although I have moved to a different state, I still receive the notifications for the aquatics center pool, whirlpool and sauna. One of the 3 things are broken, shut down, deemed un-safe due to sanitary or chemical reasons. It is a shame that people pay such a high fee for a membership, mostly because this is the only "Gym" in Grand Rapids or Itasca County that has pool.

I was a lifeguard at the Y for 6 years. Throughout my years of employment, I was very distraught about the way things were operated, specifically in the Aquatics Center. They have gone through 3 directors within the last 5 years and cannot retain their staff. I noticed maintenance and sanitation issues being pushed aside to keep the pool open so swimming lessons could continue, because it would be a scheduling issue for make up sessions and the director didn't want to deal with it. Another issue that did not sit well with me and is still continuing is the instructors of the Red Cross LG Class (aquatic directors) passing people whom are definitely unsafe, cannot pass basic swimming drills, and do not complete life-saving scenarios properly, are being trained to fill the voids in scheduling. Aquatic directors, whom I will leave un-named, hope they read this and feel ashamed, state they will be on staff and work with them through their first couple of shifts..

My daughter loves this place! But I find it way to priceye. They charge a lot to get membership there.

I signed up for personal trainer sessions, which are competitively priced compared to other program I've used, particularly given the quality of the training I'm receiving. I've paid for expensive "trainers" at other popular gyms who do not have a fraction of the knowledge. I higly recommend Beth Joki.

The gym is clean, the equipment well maintained. Clean sweat towels are even provided! The staff is friendly and helpful. There is an assortment of equipment, comparable to other gyms, and even a dedicated facility for weight lifting. Theres an area for floor work, complete with heavy duty exercise mats, foam rollers, kettle balls, stability balls, etc. There isn't any annoying, loud music playing, so I can pick my own poison and listen on my headphones, without having to blast it.
