Very pleasant. Food was good and service excellent.
Relaxed yet dated restaurant. We were seated right away. The artichoke dip was decent, nice to have something other than frozen from apperts dip. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, we ordered salads that were listed on the menu to have mixed greens but only had iceberg lettuce. Big disappointment when ordering a salad for supper. We never were brought popovers, which we didn't want anyway, but were supposed to come with the salads. Seating was odd, old club chairs with wheels but I'm thinking part of the 70's nostalgic supper club/ logging theme? A bit overpriced for what it was. Overall we rated it a 6 out of 10.
Super cool and retro. Great breakfast.
My advice: If you're just passing through, don't bother stopping in.
About 3 months ago my friend who was traveling with us over the weekend suggested that we have lunch here before driving back to the Twin Cities. Apparently she had been here many times in the past with another and thought that the place was nostalgic with good "meat & potatoes" style food...
Which is probably why they only have 19 reviews!
Best place I know in GR to get all time favorites better than you remember don't think about them stop by and enjoy em..I do every Sunday..(;
It was about that time that the waitress decided to peel herself off the bar and mosey on over, by then we were heading out and I believe I muttered something about "Thanks but no thanks" as my friend was profusely apologizing for having us come here. How was she to know that the place would go down hill so fast in a matter of 2 years when she was last here?! I certainly don't blame her. I know for certain if we would have stayed that I would have left with a pounding headache because of the stench!! I'm betting that if you're a regular they probably treat you really well, but if you're a stranger and from out-of-town they seem to treat you like you're encroaching on their "Inner Circle!" We felt unwelcome!!
The waitress didn't even greet or seat us (the sign said to wait!), she was too busy yacking-it-up with the old loud mouth bartender. The only customers in there at 2:15 in the afternoon were two pairs of couples easily in their 60's sitting at a table, they were obviously regulars. We grabbed some menus and were about to take a seat when this stench hit our noses! None of us smoke, but it was obvious that at one time smoking was allowed in here. It was a combination of stale smoke, spilled beer, mold & mustiness that came from the disgusting carpet under our feet and the yellow stained ceiling above.
Well, when we four walked through the door... like saloon doors of the old west we realized that it's definitely not a "kid friendly" atmosphere! Thank goodness my daughter's 21!
The first chair my friend pulled out was about to lose a leg, the other chairs were "crusty" and the menus were "sticky"...who knows when the last time the tables, chairs & menus were last disinfected with a good cleaning!! We didn't even sit down, my Mom flipped open her menu as I looked over it too...she snapped it closed and said, "No! We're leaving!" the prices for their food was ridiculously high for what they were offering! I'm here to tell you that the food (mainly hamburgers) over at the other table didn't look worth the prices they wanted - Maybe back in their hay day they had really good food - but not anymore. I can get a damn good fresh burger with the fixings in a CLEAN restaurant for less in the Metro!!
